Wondering what will happen to your old fashionable clothes after delivery and how you could fit easily back into them? Well, these were some of the questions I kept asking myself. If you know me, you will know how obsessed I am with fashion. Just a few weeks after putting to birth, I quickly ran into my closet because I missed my old chic clothes and how well I use to rock them. Oops!!! Your guess is as good as mine, they couldn’t fit.
Anyways, tag along with me as I take you through 5 simple ways that helped me in my journey of weight loss after each of my 2 pregnancies.
Breastfeed
Breastfeeding is good for your baby, improving immunity and providing a number of other vital health benefits. Just make sure you don’t use it as an excuse to eat whatever you want. Beyond providing nourishment and helping to protect your baby from getting sick, breast-feeding can help you lose weight gained during pregnancy. When you breast-feed, you use fat cells stored in your body during pregnancy — along with calories from your diet — to fuel your milk production and feed your baby.
Drink plenty of water
Water will keep you hydrated. Water can be really helpful for weight loss. It is 100% calorie-free, helps burn calories and may even suppress your appetite if consumed before meals. The benefits are even greater when you replace sugary beverages with water. It is a very easy way to cut back on sugar and calories.
Don’t resist that resistance training
Resistance training like weight lifting will help you lose weight and hold muscle mass. Healthy eating habits together with resistance training has been found to be the most active method for reducing weight and improving health.
Avoid highly processed foods
Processed foods since are often high in sugar, unhealthy fats and salt which can offset your weight loss efforts.
Load up on ‘’super foods’’
Load up on “super foods” when you are a new mum. Your body needs maximum nutrition, especially when breastfeeding. Choose foods that are heavy in nutrients and light in calories and fat. One of my favorites in this category is Kontomire(spinach) with salmon.
I understand that, it’s the desire of every new mom to look like her old self again, however, one of the most important things to remember is to be patient with yourself. Lately, there is a lot of unnecessary pressure by society and social media to “snap back” as early as a month and I find it absolutely ridiculous. I feel women should take the time to heal and to admire the amazingness of their body for carrying a whole human into the world.
Confucius once said, it doesn’t matter how slowly you go, as long as you don’t stop. Stay healthy, be persistent in your journey and trust me you are one step closure to rocking your old stylish clothes.
